SFC Films is a creative production studio dedicated to exploring the human story within our universe. We focus on the inspiring and positive aspects of space exploration, emphasising how science and discovery can pave the way for a brighter, more united future—a vision we encapsulate in what we call positive space films.
We are committed to bringing more positivity to narrative storytelling while making space exploration captivating and accessible to the public. Pursuing both traditional films as a timeless storytelling mechanism and new media platforms like YouTube, we aim to grow our audience and foster a vibrant, engaged community.
Through engaging content on our YouTube channels and our annual film festival, we support fellow filmmakers in this genre and inspire audiences to imagine the boundless possibilities of a progressive, compassionate, and united space-faring civilisation.
Masoud Varjavandi
Founder & Managing Director
Masoud Varjavandi is a champion of positive space films, dedicated to changing perceptions and making science exciting and accessible to everyone. He firmly believes that through knowledge, curiosity, and rational thinking we can uplift humanity and build a better world.
Masoud founded Space Faring Civilisation (SFC) Films as a way to grow as a filmmaker while helping bring more inspiring and optimistic stories to our screens, films that empower people to imagine, believe in, and actively shape a brighter future
He is also not afraid to wear his astronaut suit costume in public if it helps spark a conversation about space, hope, or the importance of a good imagination.
Mehrdad (Mick) Varjavandi
Camera & Production Assistant
Mehrdad Varjavandi is a great supporter of SFC Films and a wonderful brother to Masoud. His experience in both the building industry and the computer industry has been an invaluable asset to SFC Films, where he assists with set construction, camera work, and general production support.
Mehrdad is also an enthusiastic drummer and a lover of jazz music, bringing creativity and positive energy to every project he helps bring to life.

Amelia Hurst
Actress, Presenter and Festival Judge
Amelia Hurst is a Canberra based actress and performer with professional training in stage and screen from the Canberra Academy of Dramatic Art (CADA), the National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA), and the National Acting School (NAS). She has received several awards, including the Excellence Award for Best Actress in a Monologue at the “So You Think You Can Act” competition in LA, and the “Actor to Watch For” award at the Big Break Film Festival in Hollywood.
Amelia’s notable recent roles include “Mama Delorme” in the feature film Dedication, based on a Stephen King short story, as well as appearing as herself in SFC Films’ documentary Star Revealer.
A long time supporter of SFC Films, Amelia has appeared in numerous SFC Films projects. She made her directorial debut with the SFC Films short Bonkus and also serves as one of the judges for the Space Faring Civilisation (SFC) Film Festival.
John Kelly
Actor, Presenter and Festival MC
John Kelly is a Canberra based actor with an extensive history in theatre, short films, TV commercials and small screen credits. John has appeared in a number of projects with SFC Films as well as using his MC and Presenter background hosting a number of SFC events including the Space Faring Civilisation Film Festival.
John has been a tremendous SFC Films supporters and he will be hosting the Space Faring Civilisation Award ceremoney yet again in 2026.
Eric Dean Freese
Festival Judge and Advisor
Eric Dean Freese has more than 20 years of experience as a filmmaker and film festival professional. He is the Festival Director of the Cedar Rapids Independent Film Festival and as Vice-President of the Iowa Motion Picture Association, the premiere film organization in in the Iowa state of the United State Of America.
He is an awesome supporter of SFC Films by serving as Judge and advisor to Space Faring Civilisation Film Festival.
